Jeremy Garrett is the founder and principal of NaTour
Communications, a private consulting firm based
in Waterbury, Vermont. His clients include the United Nations
Environment Programme, Outside Magazine, international tourism
boards, conference planners, state and federal resource
agencies, private tour operators and non-governmental organizations.
NaTour Communications uses effective communications –
including written, verbal and visual media – to bridge
the gap between man and nature.
Since 1990, Jeremy has worked in the planning, development and implementation of nature and eco-tourism products. Combining an academic background in wildlife ecology
and communications, Jeremy has been recognized internationally
for his work in promoting local ecotourism efforts. He previously
served as Membership and Publications Director for The International
Ecotourism Society (TIES), a membership-based nonprofit
association that serves as an international network for
the development of responsible travel opportunities that
have localized benefits. Jeremy also promoted wildlife funding
and nature tourism opportunities through the Oklahoma Department
of Wildlife Conservation, and assisted the International
Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies in successfully
lobbying for additional federal wildlife funds.
Jeremy strongly believes in providing local areas with the
knowledge and skills needed to effectively market their
region and natural attributes to the world. To accomplish
this, NaTour Communications offers a host of services to
effectively promote natural destinations, including target
marketing and destination representation; website design,
hosting and management; special events planning and promotion;
wildlife and interpretive trail design and marketing at
the local, regional and state levels; publication development;
public relations and lobbying campaigns; and effective training
to staff and volunteers. Jeremy has published numerous magazine
articles and authored Landscaping for Wildlife: A Guide
to the Southern Great Plains, which was published in July
2003 by the University of Oklahoma Press. He regularly speaks
at conferences throughout the world.
Jeremy received his Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife
ecology with a minor in communications from Oklahoma
State University in 1992. He is a member of EcoClub, and belongs to
the board of the new cultural nonprofit Angel Conservation.
In 2009, Jeremy and his two partners Liesl Robinson and
Joe Pymm formed J2L Events LLC to develop, produce and
manage various trade shows, conferences and events.
